Natural Musical Instruments Workshop

Building Natural Maple Tonewoods

This workshop fits best for children from 5 to 8 years old.

We start with maple branches collected in the forest, step-by-step building complete tonewoods and playing them together in a rhythmic and powerful way.

The work process depends on the state of the wood and the group progress and can contain the following steps:

  • cutting the wood to size
  • barking with a carving knife
  • polishing with sandpaper
  • coating with organic oil

The collective crafting and playing of the tonewoods creates a beautiful atmosphere in the group.

Building Natural Xylophones

This workshop fits best for kids from 8 years upwards – and for adults.

Every child crafts their own xylophone from maple branches. These xylophones are unique and every instrument has a different scale, depending on the length, width and consistency of the wood.

The work process depends on the state of the wood and the group progress and can contain the following steps:

  • cutting the wood to size
  • barking with a carving knife
  • polishing with sandpaper
  • coating with organic oil
  • knotting of the finished bars to a hanging xylophone

At the end, the kids happily play their instruments together, creating their own piece of music.
